Maritime piracy

Ships transport 90% of global trade and therefore maritime piracy is a real threat to the global economy. Piracy response and prevention has become a crucial mission for maritime authorities, international organizations and the shipping industry.

Our solution includes :

  • Tracking equipment : SSAS-compliant satellite tracking terminals.
  • SSAS Alert management : state-of-the-art, fully secure data centre with trained operators available 24/7.
  • Data feed : Satellite radar and optical images services, AIS/SAT-AIS/VMS, LRIT, SSAS data and services.
  • Data management portal : CLS integrates satellite-based data in one interface for a complete vision of maritime activity.

With a wide range of satellite-based services, CLS is a trusted partner in piracy response and prevention. CLS supports maritime authorities in providing SSAS and other tracking equipments as per IMO ISPS Code. In addition, CLS provides SSAS alert management services, satellite radar analysis and crowd sourced data management portals with European maritime stakeholders in support of piracy prevention.

IUU fishing surveillance

The world is currently facing severe degradation of marine ecosystems and depletion of fish stocks. CLS offers a range of solutions adaptable to all fisheries policies, based on monitoring, control, prevention of Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing and advanced analytics, with the aim of preserving fish stocks and managing them in an economically sustainable manner.

Our solution includes :

  • A range of satellite-based VMS solutions (hardware & software)
  • Fisheries Monitoring Centres : Complete software and hardware for monitoring, control and surveillance of fishing activities
  • Satellite-based detection and identification of fishing vessels (combining oceanographic data, satellite radar images, analysis, and AIS/SAT-AIS data for vessel identification)
  • Metocean data to identify rich potential fishing grounds
  • Support sustainable management of fish stocks with CLS modelling and prevision services.

CLS analysts detect potential illegal fishing vessels and transmit vessel position and size to authorities in near real-time. These data are crucial for optimizing air and maritime patrol missions in direct response to illicit or suspicious activity. Our analysts can also identify suspicious vessels or suspicious behavior via correlation with other tracking information such as SAT-AIS and external data.
CLS’s services range from VMS hardware and software to state-of-the art Fisheries Monitoring Centres (FMC). In addition, CLS supports efforts to detect illegal fishing. CLS’s experts provide indications of rich fishing zones based on oceanogaphic data, then program satellite radar surveillance other areas.

Environmental monitoring

Maritime ship traffic has quadrupled in the past two decades with a corresponding impact on the marine environment. The international community is increasingly concerned about ship emissions, ship ballast discharge and accidental oil spills, and international regulations now impose penalties for polluting vessels.

Our solution includes :

  • Satellite radar products and services
  • Tracking information and intelligence data from various sources
  • Data fusion : AIS/SAT-AIS/LRIT/VMS/RADAR/Metocean
  • Data management portal : Web-based or housed in your control center
  • Ship emissions (NOx and SOx) measurements using long range UAVs

CLS provides services to help maritime authorities detect and identify pollution and polluting vessels in support of environmental protection, as per IMO MARPOL Convention. CLS is at the cutting-edge of environmental control and surveillance with satellite-based radar detection of illegal fuel discharge and accidental oil spills. Our analysts can identify oil spills and predict their drift, in support of maritime authorities’ obligation to implement necessary environmental protection measures.

In addition to detecting illegal fuel discharge by satellite radar, polluting vessels can be identified via correlation with AIS or other vessel identification information.

In response to more stringent regulations on nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide emissions from shipping, CLS is working on UAV-based emissions detection solutions, allowing authorities to enforce emissions regulations remotely and comprehensively.
